What makes a sneaker case worth it?
Three things, and cardboard has none of them. A case has to block UV, because sunlight is what turns white midsoles yellow and fades uppers, and no cleaner reverses it once it sets. It has to seal, because dust, moisture and mold do their damage slowly, out of sight, while a pair sits untouched for months. And it has to stack, because a collection grows and a shelf does not.

Does UV really matter if the pairs are indoors?
